Nothing Happening in Meditation?

By lorelei

Many beginning meditators will complain of the lack of anything interesting happening when they sit down to meditate. They hear stories about awesome experiences that occur when others meditate and this is often one of the things that motivates people to begin meditating. They desire these same experiences. But what many fail to realize is that for these big experiences to happen they have to learn to open themselves up to the subtle experiences that are happening that they are simply unaware of because they are looking in the wrong place.

When people sit down to meditate they immediately look for “experiences they can relate to”. They are looking for some overt, over the top experience to grab them by the collar and take them for a ride.

These types of experiences definitely do happen, but usually only to people who have learned to open themselves to the Universe in the correct way.

The universe steps forward when everything is in the right place. If you aren’t open yourself to the manner in which the experience will come, you have blocked off the path in which it will appear. All the complaining in the world won’t change the fact that you refuse to open the door.

When you sit down to meditate, pay close attention to the subtle. Pay attention to the feelings and impressions you get. In the beginning, this is where the meat lies. Don’t expect crazy lights and black holes, pay attention to how things feel. The things that seem out of the ordinary. These are the experiences that will open your brain to more profound experiences down the road. ou are learning to navigate foreign spaces that your consciousness does not recognize.

Just sit and relax, keep your mind clear, and let whatever is going happen to you, happen. Don’t try to expect something in particular or box what starts to happen into a preconception of what you think it should be.

What Is Incense And How It Can Help You

By lorelei

Incense is an aromatic substance, which is obtained from certain resinous trees. It releases fragrant smoke when burned and is largely used for the purpose of religious worship. Indeed incense has been used for centuries in religious ceremonies and spiritual purification rites, a practice that persists to this day.

Incense has been used by humanity since the dawn of civilization. The oldest sources we have regarding incense are the Indian Vedas. Herodotus testifies to its use among the Assyrians and Babylonians. Egyptians used incense in religious ceremonies and also to counteract unpleasant odors and drive away demons. It is also used by the Jewish, Christian and Islamic faiths as well as the Buddhists, Hindus and many others. In Japan, there is a strong relationship between nature, incense, poetry, and the human spirit.

Use of incense in religion is prevalent in most cultures. One common use of incense is as a form of sacrificial offering to a deity. It is used almost universally across the globe for religious purposes, to mask unpleasant odors or just to enjoy its pleasing scent. Incense is said to have several medicinal effects too. Many earlier civilizations used incense as a herbal medicine for treating health disorders. Even to this day, many incense ingredients are used as medicines all over the world.

Incense fragrances can be of such great strength that they obscure other, less desirable odors. This has led to the use of incense in funeral ceremonies because the incense can smother the scent of decay.

With their sweet-smelling perfume, many types of incense are considered quite valuable.

Many people burn incense to appreciate its smell, without assigning any other specific significance to it. It should be noted that those with asthma should carefully test incense before buying large quantities of it as some incense can give you a violent allergic reaction. Though these incenses are few and far between, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Incense was and continues to be used to alter consciousness through the sense of smell. Incense during meditation is said to dissipate negative energy. Burning of incense helps to create a positive state of mind and helps condition the mind to associate the typical fragrance with a positive and calm mind. Careful consideration of its influence will help us determine the scents that are best for us. This means that each of us has to test the scents that lift us into higher vibrations, higher states of consciousness.

Incense has the power to remove distress and uplift the spirit. The sweet aroma of incense creates a sense of joy and peace as well as enhances your environment.

Choosing Ski Goggles - things to bear in mind

By lorelei

Do you love skiing? If you’re one of those takes pleasure in speeding down the slopes, then you know that a good pair of ski goggles makes a big difference in your performance. You need to wear it. Like in many other things our path in skiing is determined through our eyes.

Going down a slippery, icy path is no piece of cake. You are being slapped with snow, wind, ice, rocks, and other debris. Imagine how vulnerable your eyes would be. That’s where goggles come in. They serve as a physical barrier to shield your eyes from those flying things and allow you to see your way so you will be able to avoid uneven terrains, trees, and even other skiers.

The ski goggles you select should not only look good. They should have the features that best protect your eyes.

The ultraviolet radiation, or UV, from the sun doesn’t only damage skin. It also damages your eyes. Exposure to UV burns the cornea and causes photokeratitis, or sunburn of the cornea. It lasts for two days at most, but long-term exposure to UV causes cataracts and other eye defects. It is not only during summer that you are in danger of UV. We are exposed to it every single day, sunny or cloudy. UV rays are also reflected off snow.

Ski goggles must improve perception and reduce, if not fight away, fogging. They must be able to prevent at least 95% of the UV rays from your eyes. They should allow you to see or quickly identify hazards like rocks and trees when traveling at high speed.

In selecting the right ski goggles for you, freelance writer Anthony J. Carter suggests that you take note of the weather conditions and the type of activity you will participate in. Check if the ski goggles offer UV protection. Ski goggles must have attributes for anti-fog and ventilation. Select goggles with double lens and a venting system, that provides air circulation within the goggles and minimizes instances of fogging. This also keeps your eyes cool and refreshed. Water resistant goggles also minimize fogging.

Tints and colors of ski goggles has its functions. You just don’t wear a certain color you are in the mood for. Light colored lenses bring more light to your eyes, while dark colored lenses block some light.

According to Carter, tints and colors of ski goggles have purposes:

- Bronze lenses provide the greatest protection against UV rays and can be worn during sunny to cloudy conditions.

- Bronze chrome lenses offer better protection in bright sunlight.

- Clear lenses allow light through so it is good for low weather conditions, like blizzards and during nighttime.

- Clear chrome orange, clear chrome blue or yellow lenses offer the same advantages that clear lenses offer while at the same time letting in a bit less light with a tint.

Writer Don Shalin says that there are some ski goggles that have interchangeable lenses so you can choose the lens color you need. He advices that you try on several pairs of ski goggles to get a comfortable fit and try the goggles with your helmet.

If you wear eyeglasses, you don’t have to try to fit your eyeglasses inside your goggles. Never, ever try the slopes without them. Mark Bowden notes that there are ski goggles that have features of eyeglasses. According to him, inserts and lenses can be custom made.

How to Clean Leather office chair

By lorelei

So you have decorated your office with a great set of leather office chairs, things were looking great for a while but then the unthinkable occurs and the employees start to stain them with ink, felts, tip ex and more. Leather chairs are rather expensive to buy so if you or an employee were to stain them it would be a shame. Here we will have a look at some simple ways to remove stains, as well as some more unique ways in which you can use to get rid of the more stubborn stains.

The first few are quite obvious, but underestimated techniques which you may use to get your chairs sparkling again. Firstly there is the use of alcohol, no not to drink but to use as a sort of white spirit on your leathers. It is very good at removing stains and it safe on the materials. Another great use are baby wipes, although you may think that baby wipes are mild and soft because they are used on kids all the time, but the actual cleaning agents inside them work great at dissolving stains and are also sensitive to the body. Finally another great method is to use antibacterial gel, you should apply this to a stain and let it sink into the material and then wipe it away.

If none of the above techniques have worked, I would recommend trying these more advanced tips, but always remember to test it on an area of your leather chair so you are certain it won’t affect the colour or the fabric. The first solution would be to use hairspray, but you must be very careful with hairspray because they do contain other chemicals which may actually damage the leather material. If you are worried about using the hairspray on your fabrics then there is another more lenient choice. A strong woman’s remedy called the nail polish remover, please note that this is a very strong substance and should be used under precautions. You will only need to dab a little onto the stain and rub it in and you should gradually see it disappear.

Please note you should always treat your leather chairs with great care, because if you apply to much of the chemicals it may ruin it completely. If your stains are still there after trying everything I would recommend purchasing a new chair and avoiding the same mistake.

Fundraising for Charity

By lorelei

A quilting business doesn’t have to be a store that sells fabrics, notions, kits, gives lessons, etc. It doesn’t even have to make money for you. Maybe your quilting business could benefit a charity or other organization instead.

To start a quilting business as a nonprofit agency, check into your state’s laws about nonprofits. You don’t have to get into all the business paperwork hoopla if your real goal is just to help people. If, however, you’d like sales exempt status to buy fabrics and supplies for your charitable quilting business, you will need to check into it.

There are many ways to change your love of quilting into money for your favorite cause.

One way is to make a quilt and donate it to your favorite group to use as a prize in a fundraiser.

Quilted postcards could be another fundraiser. You could sell your quilted postcards at holidays and donate the proceeds to your favorite charity.

Another quilting business idea that could benefit charity is to sell subscriptions to a quilting newsletter you publish. A percentage of each subscription could be donated to your favorite cause. Unless you’re wealthy enough, don’t forget to hold out your expenses first, then donate the remainder. You’ll be getting back the money you put into each project and donating the difference.

Your love of quilting could also help an organization in a more hands on method. Get area seniors involved by taking your quilting or quilt piecing to the local senior adult center or nursing home. Spend some much appreciated time with the elderly and lead their quilt crafting time.

On the other end of that spectrum, young children would love to learn to quilt too. Make sure you volunteer to work with children who can safely work with a needle and scissors! You could turn this idea into a money maker by charging a nominal fee for supplies. Parents are always seeking ways to enrich their children’s lives. Many of them would love to see a “quilting day camp” for their kids!

Quilts are often needed at nursing homes, senior centers and at day cares, children’s hospitals and orphanages. Perhaps your project could be to make lap quilts for these people. Check with the marketing coordinator or manager to see if they’d welcome a donation of lap quilts.

You might also check at local food banks and area chapters of the America Red Cross to see if they would like quilted donations.

Team up with a group that provides holiday gifts to the needy. Make quilted throws, toys, kitchen accessories - anything!

Make quilted holiday ornaments for area nursing homes, schools, hospitals to enjoy. You could also make a holiday ornament pack (or several packs) to donate to a group to give away in a drawing.

If you are looking for a way your donations could give you some sort of financial impact, ask your accountant if your quilts can be charitable deductions. If you are thinking of forming a non profit, remember that the term doesn’t mean you are not paid for your time, it simply means your business cannot PROFIT. Any profit must be turned back into the business. Again, check with your accountant and state laws for specific information that may affect you.

Whether you want to start a quilting business to profit for yourself or to make money for your favorite cause, there’s room in the quilting industry for you! Decide who you would like to help and develop a plan for how you will help them. Quilting for charity is a great way to share your love for quilting!
